OVERVIEW:
Teams formed at the 14U, 16U & 18U levels are formed differently than teams at the 8U, 10U and 12U ages. First off, in the Big West league we participate in, they group 16U & 18U ages together to form a High School (HS) league. This makes it easier for all communities to gather enough players for teams.
Wayzata offers two different forms of teams intended to target different audiences:
14U & HIGH SCHOOL TRAVEL TEAMS:
These teams are formed to play from the Fall (August) to Summer (following July). Players wanting to play on these teams tend to be those who want to play travel at a higher level of competition and larger level of time commitment.
Year-Round teams are formed using Fall tryout results along with the prior year's player evaluation forms from coaches (where available). We're looking to form teams of liked skilled athletes with a balance of pitchers, catchers and other positions to optimize team play. We will make an "offer" to the player within a certain open timeframe. Based on who at what position(s) accepts will determine how other players are offered and for which teams. Players at this age are eligible to try out for multiple teams or clubs and select from their desired team's offer. In the 2024-25 season we formed (2) 14U Full Year teams and (1) HS Full Year team. With the numbers continuing to climb at our 12u level, we hope to form a similar - if not greater - number of teams again this upcoming season.
At this level, we openly support and encourage multi-sport players. Our only request is that a priority is given to softball once the summer season is in session.
The total fee for this team is $1,600. Players trying out for these teams will pay a non-refundable $25 deposit at the initial registration. Then if you make a full year team, you'll pay an initial payment in August with the balance due in January.
14U & HIGH SCHOOL FALL ONLY TEAMS:
These teams are formed for only the Fall Season (August through Sept). This option is mostly focused on Summer Recreation players who are looking to play additional softball in the Fall. For more information, go to the Travel 8U-12U Fall Ball.

PLAYER SCHOLARSHIPS
PWYSA provides scholarships for registration fees to girls, who without financial assistance would be unable to participate in youth softball. PWYSA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with limited funding available for scholarships. No guarantee of assistance is implied by this program. If the number of scholarship applications submitted and approved exceeds the budgetary amount available, the scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the PWYSA Board of Directors. Apply here.
Our Association is a parent run volunteer association. As such, we have a volunteer requirement for all registered players. You are able to fulfill this obligation one of two ways, buyout by paying a set fee ($250), or complete required hours by completed qualifying DIBs hours (5).
If you child accepts an offer for one of our Year-Round Teams, during the Team registration process, you will be asked to select one of the following:
If you are a PWYSA Board member, head coach, top 3 assistant coaches or Team Manager, that will serve as your volunteer hours. Any other activities (bringing treats, keeping scorebook, etc) will not qualify as your DIBs commitment unless approved by the Travel Director.
If you are unable to complete your committed hours, you will be expected to pay for any hours remaining and will be billed as such. Any unpaid balances MUST be paid prior to any future registration of that player for PWYSA seasons.

Players interested in playing in our 14U and High School (16 & 18U) Full Year Travel teams MUST participate in tryouts. We will leverage tryout results along with Summer Coaches Player Evaluations to form like skilled teams to maximize team experience.
14U & High School Fall Only teams will NOT need to participate in tryouts. Players will be divided into as many teams as we can form based on the number of registrants. In the event we do not have enough players to field a team, we will not have a Fall season for that age group.
Tryouts will take place on the following date(s) depending on age group:
14U & HS (Full Year): Dates are now finalized however times are still TBD and will be based on # of players. Players only need to attend one (1) tryout.
