2010 Wayzata Warmup Official Rules

This tournament is ASA sanctioned.
All participating teams must be ASA or ASA USA-MSF
(Minnesota Sports Federation) members
and provide membership verification at time of registration
(i.e. ASA 2010 Membership Card).

  1. This tournament offers berths to the NAFA or USSSA national championships. National championship tournament berths will be awarded as follows: 
    1. 10U to the two highest placing teams in the Gold "A" bracket and the highest placing team in the Silver "B" bracket.
    2. 12U to the two highest placing teams in the Gold "A" bracket and the highest placing team in the Silver "B" bracket.
    3. 14U to the two highest placing teams in the Gold "A" bracket and the highest placing team in the Silver "B" bracket.
  2. All teams must check in with completed rosters, ASA verification, NAFA verification is acceptable.  If a team wished to compete for and potentially earn a USSSA berth, they must be registered with USSSA prior to participation in their first game.  
  3. Except where modified by these rules, ASA USA rules govern play.
  4. Protests on the interpretation of game rules shall be decided on the playing field and must be made before the next pitch is thrown. The decision of the umpire is final.
  5. Home team shall be determined by ball toss to the mound from home plate, (closest to the mound is the home team)
  6. Batting of the entire roster and unlimited substitution is mandatory. A courtesy runner is optional for the pitcher and catcher. The runner shall be the player that made the last out.
  7. Games will be seven innings in length with time limits. No new inning may begin after 1 hour and 10 minutes of play, (1 hour and 5 minutes of play for 10U), except for championship games on Sunday, which have no time limit. International tie-breaker rule applies for extra inning championship games.
  8. Ties will be broken using the international rule after time expires in Medal play and while time permits in pool play. Pool play games may end in a tie.
  9. There will be a 15-run rule after 3 innings, a 12-run rule after 4 innings and a 10-run rule after 5 innings
  10. For all 10U games, the batter may attempt to advance to first base on a dropped third strike.
  11. Criteria for placement of teams into the championship brackets are as follows:
    1. 10U the top 6 teams (top 4 teams from the Gold Pool and the top team of the Blue and White pools) will go the 10U gold bracket via the criteria described in 14.
    2. 12U the top 8 teams (All four teams from the Gold Pool and the top two teams from the Blue and White pools) will go to the 12U gold bracket via the criteria described in 14.
    3. 14U the top 6 teams (All four teams from the Gold Pool and the top team from the Blue and White pools) will go to the 14U gold bracket via the criteria described in 14.
  12. Order of placement will be as follows:
    1. 10U Gold top team will be seed 10U-A(1).  10U Gold second team will be seed 10U-A(2). 10U Gold third team will be seed 10U-A(3).  10U Gold fourth team will be seed 10U-A(4).  10U-A(5) team will be the top team from the white or blue pool determined as follows:  best won-loss record, head-to-head (if played each other), least runs allowed, most innings played, coin toss. The other pool winner will be team 10U-A(6).
    2. 10U-B(1) team will be determined as follows:  best won-loss record of remaining 4 teams, head-to-head (if played each other), least runs allowed, most innings played, coin toss, and 10U-B(2) and subsequent teams will be seeded using the same criteria for remaining teams until all teams are seeded.
    3. 12U Gold top team will be seed 12U-A(1).  12U Gold second team will be seed 12U-A(2). 12U Gold third team will be seed 12U-A(3), and 12U Gold fourth team will be seed 12U-A(4).  12U-A(5) team will be the top team from the white or blue pool determined as follows:  best won-loss record, head-to-head (if played each other), least runs allowed, most innings played, coin toss. The other pool winner will be team 12U-A(6). The same criteria will be used for the next best two teams from the Blue and White pools to determine the 12UA(7) and 12U-A(8) seeds respectively.
    4. 12U-B(1) team will be determined as follows:  best won-loss record of remaining 5 teams, head-to-head (if played each other), least runs allowed, most innings played, coin toss, and 12U-B(2) and subsequent teams will be seeded using the same criteria for remaining teams until all teams are seeded.
    5. 14U Gold top team will be seed 14U-A(1).  14U Gold second team will be seed 14U-A(2). 14U Gold third team will be seed 14U-A(3), and 14U Gold fourth team will be seed 14U-A(4).  14U-A(5) team will be the top team from the white or blue pool determined as follows:  best won-loss record, head-to-head (if played each other), least runs allowed, most innings played, coin toss. The other pool winner will be team 14U-A(6). 
    6. 14U-B(1) team will be determined as follows:  best won-loss record of remaining 4 teams, head-to-head (if played each other), least runs allowed, most innings played, coin toss, and 14U-B(2) and subsequent teams will be seeded using the same criteria for remaining teams until all teams are seeded.

 

  1. In the event of inclement weather, the tournament director reserves the right to adjust the number of games, game length, and schedule to meet conditions.

 

Other Information

  • Check-in is required at the Elm Creek playfield.  Please check in prior to your first game, at the Elm Creek playfield.  
  • Bracket Boards at the Elm Creek fields are considered official. Coaches are required to check the boards in the event of changes. It is the responsibility of the winning coach to collect the blue score card from the umpire and deliver it to the concession stand so the Bracket Boards may be updated.
  • No soft-toss batting against the fence is allowed at fields. 
  • Concessions are available at the Elm Creek tournament fields, and will be available at the Hamel fields.
