Travel League Description

For those girls interested in a more competitive level of play, a travel league is offered.  The travel league is more time consuming and competitive. Tryouts for the travel league will be conducted and will be based on skills in hitting, infield, outfield, and pitching.

Playing at a certain level/team one season does not guarantee a spot at that level/team in the following seasons. Each season girls will have the opportunity to move up or down based on their tryout/evaluation. In travel softball, the emphasis is on skill development, and teamwork in a positive environment.

What is different about travel softball vs. rec. softball?

In travel softball, teams are formed in early March based on tryout evaluations to create competitive teams. Travel teams practice between one and two times a week and typically have a one or two games per week in the MMFL softball league. Games are typically against surrounding community teams; Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Orono, Robbinsdale, Hopkins, etc... teams in close proximity to PWYSA. Each team typically plays in 3-5 tournaments which can include the state tournament or national tournaments. Tournaments are not overnight but usually involve being at a site all day. Games are highly competive with the girls competing against the best players from each city.

Practices begin indoors starting in March with the first league games starting in early May.  All Wayzata teams participate in the Wayzata Warm Up Softball Tournament early to mid May.
