Welcome to 2017!

Dear Friends, Families, Players and Coaches,

Welcome to 2017!   The Plymouth Wayzata Youth Softball Association is excited about the upcoming softball season, I hope you share that same anticipation and excitement!

2016 Review

2016 was a big year for The PWYSA!   It was a year of change, transition, and success – both for our recreation and travel programs.

First, we implemented a pilot 8u travel program.  We found the feedback and success compelling, so we will move forward with a full 8U travel program for 2017!

We also implemented an “A” level team at 10U, formally, for the first time.  This team not only finished in the top 8 in state qualifiers, but also earned tier 1 State status.  In fact, all three 10U teams won several games at Nationals in late July, and proceeded into Sunday’s brackets!   Really tremendous success and experience for the girls!

Travel 12U fielded 3 teams last year, and in 2017, we believe we will also field 3 teams again.  We fielded two teams at the 14U level, and 2 at the 16U level, while also implementing a Gold-level program, called the Bandits, within the 16U level, that competed against area club teams.

For the Recreational League program, we fielded 17 teams.   We continue to focus on building this program, from kindergarten to 12 grade, and will evaluate options to vary the program in 2017.

2016 also saw transition on our Board.   Longstanding Board members Mike Carter (President) and Brian Ingemann (Travel Director) transitioned out after many years of service.   We have several newer people on the Board, and are currently looking to fill important seats.   We would love to hear from you if you have interest in supporting our growing association.

 2017 Themes

In travel, along with an expanded 8U program, we will expand our Gold-level program by adding a Bandits team to the 14U level as well as the 18U level, and focus on team expansion at the 8U and 10U levels.     A heavy graduation of 10U girls to 12U, long with a strong fall participation, bodes well for the 12U program.

Travel tryouts in February will include a parent meeting to discuss our process and team formation, and the annual kick-off meeting will occur with all levels of travel teams on March 6th at 6pm at Wayzata High!  Our annual travel tournament, the Wayzata Warmup, occurs on May 20th and 21st.

We also are developing a modern-day communication plan, which includes the use of Twitter and Facebook (please follow us!)   Jeff White, Communications Director, has been supporting the establishment of frequent communication to increase awareness.

Our Recreational League will again host a year-end tournament on July 8th and 9th at Elm Creek Fields.

I am looking forward to further development of our programs, for the benefit of our girls.    We have an exciting time ahead of us, please join us in helping as a Coach, or as a volunteer to support our initiatives.

Sincerely,

Steve Bartz

President
