|The Plymouth Wayzata Youth Softball Association (PWYSA) promotes the game of fastpitch softball as a means to teach girls the value of teamwork and sportsmanship, to enhance self esteem and to develop softball skills - all in a positive environment.|
Registration for Summer Travel season for the 8U, 10U and 12U age groups is now open. The tryout dates are set for Saturday, February 18th and 25th. I will share more information regarding the tryout schedule in early January.
Important 8U Update
One of the initiatives from the PWYSA last year was an 8U pilot travel program. The 8U program was a success, and also a great learning opportunity. We have decided to move forward with implementing a full program this summer! Girls with 2008, 2009, and 2010 birth years will be eligible to play 8U travel softball. The teams will participate in the suburban league and have to opportunity to play in at least 2 tournaments. This is a “pitching machine” league.
Additionally, girls with 2008 birthdates will have the option to tryout to play up to the 10U level (player pitch). Our intention is to accommodate every 2008 girl that wants to play up. This is dependent upon team availability. Furthermore, girls with 2009 birthdates, will also be allowed to try out for a 10U travel team. Player tryout scores must be in the top 50% of the 2008 birth year players to be considered. However, this will not guarantee a spot on a team. Like 2008 girls, this will depend on the number of 10U players and teams that can be formed.
Tryouts and Team Formation Process
The board has decided to change one aspect of the tryouts and team formation process. At tryout check-in, each pitcher and catcher will be required to complete a form indicating their preferred team placement. Each pitcher or catcher will choose one of the following choices below, then both parent and player sign the form, and submit prior to the start of tryouts.
The two choices are:
a) If I do not rank in the top two pitchers or catchers (based upon pitching or catching evaluation score), but I otherwise qualify for the upper team, I would prefer to be placed on the upper team, even though I may receive little to no pitching or catching time.
b) If I do not rank in the top two pitchers or catchers (based upon pitching or catching evaluation score), but I otherwise qualify for the upper team, I would prefer to be placed on the lower team and receive dedicated pitching or catching time.

I look forward seeing your daughters at the pre-season clinics and travel tryouts.
